MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police released surveillance photos of three men accused of robbing and kidnapping a man at the Bent Tree Apartments in the Airport Area Sunday. “It’s something every day, every minute,” one resident, who didn’t want to share his name, told WREG. His says he’s not surprised to hear the news. “You can get robbed out here, you can get shot out here. You never know,” he said. “So, you just walk out at your own risk, you come at your own risk, you try to stay to yourself.” The case is the second violent crime WREG has covered at the complex in just the past couple of weeks, but property managers say they’re doing all they can to put a stop to it. Investigators say the suspects walked up to a man as he dropped his friend off at the apartments Sunday night, forced him into the backseat of his own car at gunpoint, and beat, pistol-whipped and robbed him. The men then drove the victim to Save-A-Minute on Winchester where two of them were caught on camera trying to withdraw money from his bank account, but it didn’t work, according to police. Police say the suspects then crashed the victim’s car behind Winchester Elementary School and let him go. He ran to another nearby gas station for help. Earlier that same day, investigators had put out surveillance photos of several men accused of robbing and beating two men at the same apartments last month. And back in November, three men were shot and killed there. Managers for the complex say they’ve put up “no trespassing” signs, and are working closely with investigators to curb the violence. “We’re taking an aggressive stand against the crime here,” Bent Tree Apartments Operations Manager Tameca Parker said. “Our main priority our residents. We want our residents to feel safe, we want them to feel like when they’re at home, it’s almost like their safety net. Of course, we’re trying to do everything that we can to deter the crime.” Parker says the apartments have security guards, but they’re not on duty during normal business hours. She insists that at night, a guard is posted at the gate to check IDs as people enter the complex. WREG checked with police to see if they’d made any arrests in last month’s case or the November murders, but we haven’t gotten a response. Call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH if you know anything.
