SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Drivers complained for years about traffic on Goodman Road in Southaven.
City and county leaders said the Swinnea Road extension will help travelers get to their destination a little bit easier.
They broke ground on the extension project Friday.
Drivers said the area has been a nightmare for years.
The new project will extend Swinnea Road past its current dead end to Church Road.
City leaders told WREG this is a big deal for the community.
“It’s huge, you know this has been pending for many many years so the city has known that we need this to relieve traffic on Goodman and Church Road; it’s obviously not going to solve all the problems but it will be a big step toward that,”said Mayor Darren Musselwhite.
WREG was told the extension is expected to wrap up by early next year but a lot of that depends on the weather.
