NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An online system for the state’s new TNReady assessment experienced major problems on its first day. The state Department of Education announced it is going to test students with paper and pencil exams instead, this school year.
That means your child likely did not test as planned today.
The state’s vendor for TNReady is Measurement Inc. Its testing platform, MIST, experienced major outages statewide.
Shelby County Schools, and other districts across the state, were told to discontinue testing for the day.
Some students were already attempting to take the test when the issues arose.
“Kids studied for it, and they already be prepared for it,” said a sister of a SCS student. She said it was “crazy” that the TNReady did not seem to be ready.
State Education Commissioner Dr. Candice McQueen said, “Despite the many improvements the department has helped to make to the system in recent months and based on the event of this morning, we are not confident in the system’s ability to perform consistently.”
The Department will mail out supplies for a paper exam and adjust the test window. Districts will receive information about a revised test window by Thursday.
TNReady is the state’s new exam for Tennessee public school students. It replaces parts of the TCAP. It is meant to better test student understanding.
