RICHTON, Miss. — A Richton High School football player has recently gotten more attention for what he did when no one was looking as opposed to what he did on the field.
Last Friday, October 30, as everyone on the field took a knee for an injured player, Daylen Jones joined them.
But he didn’t just take a knee.
Without hesitating, Jones dropped to the ground, reached out his arm towards his friend, and bowed his head.
It was at that moment Cathy Smith Green snapped a picture of number 25.
“In this time where organized prayer is challenged in courts, and schools in fear of lawsuits, cower against athiest demands, it is comforting to know, these kids, who have been brought up right, don’t have to be “lead” in prayer.,” she posted to her Facebook page.
The post has since gone viral.
One fan wrote, “I was never more proud to be a part of the Richton Team. Thank the Lord for delivering both young men last night.”
“The Faith but also the Courage. I am so proud of this picture of my nephew,” posted Vincent Jones. “We as parents, uncles, aunts, and grandparents never truly know when the time, moment, or space will be that your child, niece, nephew, or grandchild will let what has been put in come out. It’s easy and we see it everyday, for the worldly to show it self. For the thought and courage to pray in this theater at this age for hurt player. It speaks volumes.”
