Tax-free weekend starts Friday for Mississippi, Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kids are heading back to school soon which means it’s time for those sales tax holidays.

Beginning Friday, July 27, Tennessee shoppers will not have to pay sales tax on items such as clothing, shoes and school and art supplies that are $100 or less, per item. Computers priced at $1,500 or less are also tax free.

That event runs through Sunday, July 29.

The Mississippi sales tax holiday is Friday and Saturday only. It includes clothing and shoes that are $100 or below. School supplies and computers are not tax free this weekend in that state.

Arkansas’ sales tax holiday is next weekend, August 4 and 5.

“This is the best time of the year,” said teacher Barbara Clements. “This is better than Christmas, especially for us teachers, and of course we gotta get that first day of school outfit, so I’m excited.”

When most people think about the tax free weekend you might think about things like school supplies, computers and clothing, but you might not think about other things your family might need like diapers.”

But there have been some reports of phony coupons floating around. Some advice from retailers: It’s usually good to get them straight from the source.

The Wolfchase Galleria mall is also planning for big crowds this weekend. You can download the free Simon mobile app to access rewards and search for their deals directly too.
