NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Monday night there was controversy inside the Millington Police Department.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have opened an investigation into the department after money went missing from the evidence room.
No one seemed to know where it went.
“If the police are stealing money, I mean that’s a problem,” said Katie Simpson. ‘That means I’m not trustworthy.”
She was simply baffled.
She lives in Millington and always relied on the Police.
“Very trustworthy. Very honest. No problems,” Simpson said describing the officers. ” I mean it kind of makes you wonder with this has something else happened.”
The TBI told WREG they were asked to step in by the District Attorney’s Office last week in order to figure out where the missing money went.
However, they wouldn’t go into any details like how much money and who it belonged to.
WREG contacted Mayor Terry Jones and the City’s Aldermen to get their reaction, but some city leaders didn’t even know about the investigation.
The Mayor’s Office released the following statement:
“On August 20th this situation came to light. All proper authorities have been notified and the City of Millington is cooperating fully. This is an active investigation, therefore we have no further comment.”
