SOMERVILLE, Tenn. — Law enforcement is on the scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Somerville.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Woodbridge Road.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, two Somerville police officers responded to a 911 call that said Michael Morris, 54, had a knife and was intoxicated and suicidal.
When the officers arrived, they said Morris took out the knife and threatened them. According to the TBI, the officers tried to subdue him multiple times using nonlethal force, but the situation escalated.
At least one of the officers then shot him, and he died at the scene, according to the TBI.
The TBI said it is acting as “fact-finders” in the case. It’s the agency’s policy to not identify the officers involved.
