MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A school teacher said she was pushed to the ground and beaten in her driveway in Cooper Young.
“I heard people running up behind me. I turn around. I thought it was friends,” said the teacher who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
She told police three strangers were in her driveway on Philadelphia Monday night.
“They caught up to me and grab me and knocked me to the ground,” she said.
She screamed for help.
They told her to be quiet
“So then they punched me. I think to make me go unconscious,” she said.
The men reportedly grabbed her purse and bolted when her neighbor walked outside.
Down the road at Oliver and Tanglewood, a woman told police she was at the stop sign Friday when some men pointed a gun and robbed her.
Police have yet to make any arrests, and it is unclear if the crimes are related.
Police did pick up three guys shortly after Monday’s robbery, but the teacher said she couldn’t positively identify them so they were let go.
Aaron James with Cooper Young’s Neighborhood Watch is hoping this new security system gets criminals to think twice.
More than 70 security cameras purchased with grant money are being installed.
They will be placed around the perimeter pointing at alleys and streets.
Already, cameras caught a road rage incident involving a gun.
“So we were able to provide that to MPD as evidence,” he said.
Around 40 more cameras will be installed by the end of the month.
