MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A recent graduate of Christian Brothers High School was shot and killed in Cordova Saturday night.
Eddie McDonald, 18, was shot at a party at the Country Squire Apartments.
McDonald’s family members confirmed his death on social media.
Witnesses said two men and a woman were turned away from the party when one of them started shooting.
WREG spoke with McDonald’s brother — who didn’t want to be named — but said his brother had just finished his first semester at Southwest Tennessee Community College, majoring in criminal justice, and wanted to help bring change to Memphis by becoming a police officer.
“[Eddie said] ‘I want to make things better, I want to make a change in this world.’ And now he’s never going to get that chance,” he said.
He said he got the news on a day when he was supposed to be celebrating his own engagement.
“He went to a party with his friends, and then we got the call.”
Police say an argument erupted around 11 p.m. Saturday inside an apartment at Country Squire, after a group of people showed up uninvited and were turned away.
One of the suspects began shooting at the party-goers, hitting McDonald in the head, according to his brother — a split-second decision that has changed his family forever.
“I know my parents will probably never be the same,” he said. “You never think it’s going to be you, but it was.”
McDonald’s killing marks the 217th in the city this year — the most in a single year in more than two decades.
And now his family can only hope whoever did it will come forward.
“The sooner you turn yourself in, the easier it will be on you and us,” his brother told WREG.
Police say the suspects took off in a white vehicle.
