MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphians again spent their Saturday at the Greensward, where they were again met by police.
Though this week, there was a new addition: temporary metal fences.
According to the Memphis Zoo, they were added “at the behest of the MPD following last weekend’s harassment of Zoo guests by protestors.”
Park enthusiast Mila Borden questioned the heavy police presence and the fences but said Greensward visitors still enjoyed the day at the park in the nice weather.
The Memphis Zoo said a police presence is common on busy weekends, though it did additionally hire some off-duty officers from MPD’s special events department. There were even a few officers on horseback and a helicopter.
