MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a wet and soggy day outside the Eden at Watersedge Apartment complex on South Mendenhall.

However, when WREG cameras captured Tina Bills’ bathroom, it appeared water was a much bigger problem on the inside.

Bills told WREG, “We have a hole in our bathroom ceiling, it’s been like that for a month.”

Bills says they contacted property management.

“We have called and we’ve called and we’ve asked them to fix it, and we’ve called Code Enforcement and they haven’t fixed it yet,” Bills added.

Bills says when repairs are made, it’s not done right.

She showed WREG pictures of what appears to be an acid-like substance she says maintenance left in her bathroom sink to unclog it.

“When they finally fixed the sink, I don’t know what he put in it, it just waste all over the cabinet, up under the sink, and mold immediately started growing.”

Bills says her biggest concern is for her grandson who also lives there. She says he has asthma.

Another resident recently emailed News Channel 3 with similar complaints and sent pictures of what looks like water damage and a peeling ceiling.

Bills said, “It’s like more things over and over, and we’re trying our best to be patient and all that, but they refuse to come fix anything.”

Management also refused to talk to WREG.

A woman who answered the office door accepted a business card, then closed the blinds and locked the door.

Code Enforcement records show inspectors visited both tenants News Channel 3 spoke with and issued violations.

Administrators say inspectors will make a follow-up visit either this week or next. They try to give landlords about two weeks to correct non-structural violations.

Bills said, “Every month we pay our rent, every month, like we’re supposed to but we still can’t get them to come fix anything.”

WREG contacted the corporate offices for New Life Multifamily Management and never received a response. We’ll continue to follow up to be sure the repairs are made.

New Life has a “B” rating with the MidSouth Better Business Bureau.

WREG found several complaints regarding late repairs.
