BARTLETT, Tenn. — Bartlett Police told us they didn’t have time to talk Tuesday.
They did confirm they have asked the Tennessee Highway Patrol to join in on a deadly accident investigation.
The THP’s Critical Incident Response Team is looking into what happened in the crash that killed 63-year-old Danny Floyd and 49-year-old Michelle Sloyan Sunday.
There are conflicting reports on whether Officer Lucas Hines’ lights were on when he went through the intersection at Stage Road and Bartlett Boulevard.
Witnesses told us Hines was speeding.
If there are answers, police aren’t giving them.
The department refuses to say anything about what happened other than the officer was not responding to a call.
Hines is a six year veteran of the Bartlett Police Department and has been on the force since 2008. He is assigned to the Patrol/Traffic Division.
There are still markings on the road where the accident happened.
They are the things investigators will look at, much like they did when they were called to Memphis to investigate a deadly crash on Crump Avenue involving an MPD officer.
They have expertise in fatal crash investigations and reconstructing accident scenes.
There’s no word on how long the investigation will take.
Their findings will be turned over to the Shelby County D.A. to determine if any charges will be filed in the case.
Police were hoping a nearby Applebee’s restaurant security camera may have captured the accident.
The restaurant manager told us Tuesday their camera malfunctioned and was not recording at the time of the crash.
Police are still contacting other nearby businesses.
There should have been a dash cam in the car at the time of the crash, though those typically are not recording unless the officer has their lights and sirens activated.
