The battle for your buck! How good are those Amazon and Walmart online sales?

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s a full-on battle for the consumers’ bucks!

Amazon is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a day of deals and specials in Prime Day.

Not to be outdone, Walmart announced Monday it would be having a rival sale with specials the same week.

What can customers expect?

Amazon says Prime Day will be better than Black Friday.

There will be new deals every 10 minutes Wednesday and lightning deals throughout the day.

WREG spoke with several people who follow savings trends including fatwallet.com‘s Brent Shelton, who anticipated deals would be heavy on electronics.

“There will certainly be a few doorbuster-like deals,” Shelton said.

He added that FatWallet shoppers can take advantage of 3 percent Amazon cash back.

Kyle James at RatherBeShopping told WREG he expects to see a lot of back-to-school bargains.
An insider at Black Friday Ads said because bundles were popular for Black Friday, customers will likely get a sneak peak of those for Prime Day.

Amazon released a preview Monday. Here’s part of the list:

Walmart’s sale has already started.  In fact, its website indicates it’s going head-to-head with Amazon.

The company also took the opportunity to take a dig at the fact that Amazon is focused on its Prime membership.

“Low prices, no hidden fees or premiums, plus savings for everyone — now that’s something we can all celebrate.”

According to Walmart, the site will feature several deals on Rollbacks along with “atomic deals” starting later in the week.

It has also reduced the free shipping minimum order to $35 from $50.

Walmart.com currently states prices are at or lower than Amazon, not including shipping.

Meanwhile, Target is hosting its Black Friday in July sale.  Best Buy is also running specials.

Is it really a deal?
No matter where customers shop, the key is to compare prices, even with mega sales like these.

While Amazon’s Prime membership offers free two-day shipping, music and movies, it costs $99 per year.

Recent research also reveals Prime members spend more than double at the site compared to nonmembers. So, determine if it’s right for you.

Customers can take advantage of a 30 day free trial.

And remember, just because it is a good deal, it doesn’t mean you need that item.
