NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said it would be out in full force during the Cinco de Mayo holiday.
All day Tuesday, THP officers will hold sobriety and seat belt checkpoints across the state.
They said they hoped the extra enforcement will reduce the number of serious or even fatal crashes and injuries throughout the state.
According to a news release, there were 15 fatal crashes and 16 vehicular deaths in Tennessee last year on the holiday.
Forty-three percent of those were alcohol-related.
Five motorcyclists were killed.
So far this year, 1,266 motorists have been killed across the state.
