MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three brothers with three perfect scores.
“I know lots of families where there are gifted kids, but at the same time there are some siblings that are really gifted and some aren’t as — quite as gifted. So I think it’s fairly impressive that all three of us have managed to do as well as we have,” Ian McLeod said.
Ian, Collin and William McLeod got the best possible scores on the ACT.
Ian is now attending Texas A&M, Collin is going to college in Oklahoma, and William is currently a student at Houston High School.
The boys said it was their parents who helped them excel academically.
“They’ve stayed on top of me, made sure that I don’t slack off. If they see that my grades might slip a little bit, they get onto me,” William McLeod said.
The brothers told WREG they never crammed or freaked out about the test.
“We’ve put in a lot of work before that,” Ian McLeod said. “We work hard in school, we’ve taken honors and AP classes every chance we get.”
I also had a specific kind of pencil called a general tests scoring 580. Just a really good pencil. I felt like — that was good,” Collin McLeod said.
Whatever the secret was — it worked and made the parents very proud.
“You got to be involved, you got to know what’s going on and you got to sit down and talk to them — the kids and the teachers,” Jeff McLeod said.
As their last child prepares to leave the nest, a mother fought back tears.
“It’s — it’s hard in some respects I’m going to — I miss them of course. But I also feel like I’m proud of them that they are ready,” Andrea McLeod said.
