MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Three inmates are back in police custody after they escaped the Federal Prison Camp in Millington, TN Friday night, according to the Millington Police Department.

The inmates were taken to 201 Poplar after they were recaptured Saturday.

The Millington Police Department had no idea three inmates escaped, neither did the Department of Justice or people living in the area.

We asked the Federal Bureau of Prisons a number of questions, like why those notifications didn’t go out, but for now the bureau isn’t talking.

Robert Draine lives by the prison camp.

He says he would have liked a heads-up, especially since his young granddaughter lives with him and plays outside all the time.

“It’s disturbing,” Draine said. “What could happen? It’s no telling. Like I said, I don’t know what they was in for.”

For now, the Federal Bureau of Prisons won’t answer that question, but we can tell you the prison camp is a minimum security facility that houses people convicted of non-violent crimes.

Abraham McLinton also would have liked a heads-up, but isn’t too concerned about it.

“I don’t see that they’re really a threat,”  he said. “They’re not murderers. They’re not rapists. They’re not hardened criminals.”

This is the third escape from the Federal Prison Camp since 2013.

When another inmate escaped in November 2017, the Federal Bureau of Prisons didn’t notify the U.S. Marshals until four hours later and never told people living nearby.

“Somebody’s not doing their job,” McLinton said.

We are going to keep pushing for answers on this latest escape.

The Bureau of Prisons says it will release information about it tomorrow.
