TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tipton County Emergency Management team announced on Friday a county-wide burn ban has been issued until further notice.
The ban is reportedly in response to the extremely low rainfall throughout the area along with the extremely dry conditions.
Until the ban is lifted, they asked that all residents follow these tips to reduce the risk of fire:
- Keep your lawn cut short and hydrated
- Remove dried leaves from your yard, gutters and ditches
- Trim dead branches from any trees
- Keep matches and lighters away from children
- Remove flammable materials such as propane tanks and wood piles and store them no less than 30 feet from your residence
- Extinguish cigarette butts in a proper container
- Refrain from disposing a lit cigarette on the side of the roadways, landscaping or vegetation.
- Inspect roof shingles and tiles, repairing loose or missing shingles and tiles to prevent ember penetration
- Report any burning or fires to your local Fire Department or Central Dispatch at 901.475.4300
