TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Covington man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping an underage relative, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office said.

Frederick Child Barrell Jr., 41, was sentenced Monday. He entered a guilty plea to four counts of rape of a child and six counts of sexual battery. His sentences will be served concurrently.

After he completes his sentence, Barrell will have community supervision for the rest of his life.

The district attorney’s office says the offenses happened between January 2017 and June 30, 2018.

Tipton County authorities said they began investigating Barrell in August 2018. Barrell confessed and was indicted in November.

“Twenty five years in prison will not restore the innocence of the victim, but it will prevent Barrell from victimizing other children,” Sheriff J.T. “Pancho” Chumley said in a statement.
