MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police Director Toney Armstrong’s story is wrapping up this week with thanks.
The Shelby County Commission called him to their office for a word of praise for his service not just to Memphis but the whole community.
“Even though we don’t live in Memphis, on behalf of Bartlett, Lakeland, I think all of us see you as our Police Director,” said David Reeves.
“When we had the Kroger attacks, your office responded so well,” said Heidi Schaffer.
Armstrong said it’s that moment, and many others like it, that he’s most proud of after his 27 years with Memphis Police.
“I can walk around this city with my head held high. I’m proud of the fact that for the most part the majority understood who I was and who I stood for,” said Armstrong.
Armstrong said he’ll miss the day to day relationships with all the stakeholders in being a part of the city.
He admitted his job is not an easy one, but he leaves it in good shape.
He is confident in the interim director and promised to be just a mile down the road with an open invitation.
