KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A piece of University of Tennessee, Knoxville history has a new look.

This might be emotional for UT Knoxville graduates.

An estimated two to three tons of paint slid off “The Rock” during Wednesday’s heat and humidity.

The “paint blanket” as the university called it, is being stored.

It was not uncommon for the rock, which is more than 8 feet tall, to be repainted several times a day since the 1960s.

The face of the rock has featured everything from cartoons to proposals.

The Rock was moved across the street from its original location in 2009.
