MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Severe weather hit the Mid-South hard Saturday.
Several counties in north Mississippi and northeast Arkansas were under Tornado Warnings during the afternoon hours.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado on the ground around 9:45 p.m. near Holly Springs, Mississippi, moving northeast at 65 miles per hour.
Spotters also confirmed a tornado near Cloverport in Hardeman County, Tennessee, around 4:20 p.m.
No damage was reported from those tornadoes — but the National Weather Service did receive several reports of wind damage scattered across the Mid-South.
The storms caused an 18-wheeler to roll over on I-55 near Senatobia, Mississippi, and there were also power lines reported down in Oxford, Batesville and Hernando. Someone told WREG a tree fell on their house in Southaven.
However, the National Weather Service reported no major damage from these storms.
A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for several counties Saturday night into Sunday morning as a cold front moved in..
The rain briefly mixed with freezing rain and sleet before tapering off early Sunday morning.
There were no reports of any significant icing across the Mid-South — but authorities are advising motorists to use caution on bridges and overpasses since there may be icy patches in some areas.
