TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a train Monday night, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Deputies responded to the scene at 10:45 p.m. at the Melrose Road train crossing.

Upon arrival, they met with officials from Canadian National Railway who reported a pedestrian was fatally struck on the tracks by the train.

Deputies located the body and later identified the victim as Jeffrey Allen Winfrey, 36, from Newbern, Tennessee.

This is an ongoing investigation.
