Traveling salesman has $100,000 of products and personal items stolen from Memphis hotel parking lot

MEMPHIS, Tenn    Police are searching for whoever stole a trailer loaded with a motorcycle and hundreds of hand whisks.  RJ Williams is a traveling salesman in town for a trade show at the convention center.

Williams told WREG he carries all his supplies and merchandise  in a trailer he tows on the back of his pick up truck.

While asleep in a hotel off Perkins and I-240 Williams says someone unhooked his trailer from his pickup and stole it.

Inside were cases of the product he was selling at trade shows across the country, including a motorcycle he used to travel back and forth to the hotel and convention center so he didn’t have to worry about leaving the trailer downtown.

Williams says Police took his basic information and said someone would contact him with 24 hours to discuss the case, get a list of all the items missing and begin an investigation into getting his items back, but he says that never happened.

He called MPD to followup and says he was told his case wouldn’t get into someone;s hands for at least a week.

“I’ve had much smaller things stolen before and I had an investigator out almost immediately,” said Williams.

He said it makes him not want to do business in Memphis again.

He is booked at other trade shows and doesn’t have a lot of inventory to sell, only what was sitting on the convention center floor.

WREG reached out to a Memphis Police spokeswoman but has not yet received a response.
