MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s day two of the trial for Amos Patton. He’s charged with trying to kill four of his fellow Guardsmen at the Millington base back in October 2013.
Wednesday, the jury heard the 9-1-1 tapes from that day and testimony from the man Patton tried to use as a getaway driver.
The sergeant who called for help was drawn to tears while listening to the 911 recording. She told emergency responders what was happening as she quickly ran away from the sounds of gunfire.
The shooting happened the day Patton found out he was being demoted from his recruiting position.
A sergeant told the prosecution she was afraid to be alone with Patton after he got the news. She was supposed to take him to his car to get his gear, and said Patton asked to go to the bathroom before they left.
He went to his car and then inside, and shot at several officers inside the armory.
Witnesses continue to give their side of the events that day.
Patton is facing several federal murder-related charges, each county carrying 20 years in jail. We’ll continue to bring you updates from the case.
