MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Germantown man accused of killing his wife went on trial starting Wednesday.

A number of witnesses took the stand today in the case against Chris Jones, including friends of the victim, a counselor for the victim, and detectives with the Germantown Police Department.

He is charged with murdering his wife, Heather Palumbo Jones, and setting her body on fire in 2013.

Part of the day was spent watching a video of Jones being interviewed by police.

Jones described his wife, who at the time was still missing, as erratic and inconsistent. He said she was not ‘favorable’ towards him.

Jones also claimed his wife was having an affair with an ex-boyfriend and had found sexual texts between the two.

In a videotaped interview with police, he said he and Heather had an open marriage for two years, and that’s what lead to their separation and divorce filing.

Witnesses described Jones as flat, emotionless, and unconcerned about Heather’s disappearance.

An attorney for Jones told WREG she’s still not sure whether Jones plans on testifying in his own defense.

Eleven of the 27 people on the jury list have testified. The judge plans on keeping the jury late Thursday to get through the rest of those witnesses. He wants the case in the jury’s hands by Friday.
