MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men were arrested after they were caught with a cache of weapons at Kingsbury High School, and there’s questions about why the two were even at the school in the first place.
According to police, the school’s principal saw the two men smoking on the soccer field, thought they were students and asked them to come to the office. Then a school resource officer spotted a pair of nunchucks attached to 18-year-old Daniel Allen’s waist and pulled him aside around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The other man who was with Allen, Bradley Perry, 21, was also asked to stop for the officer.
The officer said he was granted permission to search the pair’s pockets and their backpacks. That’s when the officer found the two had a total of six knives in their possession, along with a box cutter and B.B. gun.
Both were taken into custody for having weapons on school property.
A police report said neither man is a student at Kingsbury, but it did not say why they were on school property. Perry’s Facebook page says he went to Kingsbury High.
The two have the same listed address in Atoka, Tennessee, which is about a 30-minute drive from the school. A man at the home did not want to speak with WREG.
On Thursday, Shelby County Schools released the following statement:
The safety of our students, teachers, and faculty is our top priority. We appreciate the diligent work of School Resource Officers who immediately alerted administrators and detained these individuals who were searched at Kingsbury HS upon arrival. We are committed to cultivating a safe learning environment at our schools. SCS will not tolerate any violation of the law against carrying weapons on school property.
Parents at the school were relieved to learn that no one was harmed.
