(Memphis) In remembering the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., several events will be held to pay tribute to the contributions he made during the Civil Rights Movement.
From 8 a.m. until 9 a.m., biblical and civil rights leaders will update and bring tribute to the final prophecy of Dr. King. They will begin with prayer at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ on 930 Mason Street.
Starting at 7 p.m., Martin Luther King, III and Rev. Al Sharpton will join AFSCME President Lee Saunders for a commemorative event honoring Dr. King and the 1,300 sanitation workers who showed courage and determination in their struggle for economic equality and social justice. There will be a panel discussion on the struggles of the past and the struggles of today.
Mason Temple Church of God in Christ is where Dr. King delivered his famous “I’ve been to the Mountaintop” speech.

8:30 a.m. – Street naming (“1968 Strikers Lane”) at the corner of Beale & Danny Thomas
9 a.m. – March from AFSCME Local 1733, 485 Beale St., to the National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St.
10 a.m. – Rally at the National Civil Rights Museum
