MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officials say two people are dead and several others are injured after a shooting at a concert early Sunday morning in Panola County.
District Attorney John Champion said the shooting happened at around 2:30 a.m. during a concert at the LPS Ballpark on Hunter Chapel Road, when someone fired shots into a crowd of more than 100 people.
Champion said two people were killed when someone fired into the crowd, and several others were injured. The exact number of victims was not given.
Champion has not said what led to the shooting.
“When the shooting happened, I had to get down,” one concertgoer said. “I had to get up under the stage. I had to pray because I didn’t know if I was going to make it home.”
WREG found an event flyer for Memphis-based rapper Big Boogie, who was scheduled to perform at the venue that night.
The concert attendee said it wasn’t long before his good time turned into a nightmare.
“It sounded like Iraq,” he said.
Neighbors didn’t want to go on camera, but said they were woken from their sleep by the sound of multiple gunshots.
Champion said the Panola County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
Authorities are scheduled to host a press conference about the shooting at 11 a.m. Monday.
