CORDOVA, Tenn. — Two deputies are off the job with pay as the TBI investigates what led them to fire shots at a Shelby County man.
Scanner traffic from Friday’s deputy-involved shooting somewhat sets the scene for what led up to the incident on Big Orange Road near Macon.
Over scanner traffic, a deputy said, “Both his wrists are slit. He’s got a knife in his hand.”
The shooting landed Edmond Otis Studdard, 46, in the hospital. The scanner traffic revealed possible mental health concerns.
The audio reveals a responding deputy report back Studdard was armed.
“Keep in mind he does have a knife in his right hand. He’s not putting it down,” he said.
WREG was first to report there were warrants out for Studdard’s arrest.
A TBI criminal history check showed there have been several charges against him, including drug possession.
The TBI said Thursday’s incident started after four deputies responded to a report someone was driving erratically and was involved in a hit-and-run.
Friday, the agency confirmed Studdard was driving a truck and crashed into a Corvette.
Deputies found him walking down the road.
At some point, two deputies fired at him.
“Right here at Big Orange and Macon. He’s been shot multiple times,” scanner traffic said.
WREG has confirmed Studdard’s father owns A&H Iron Works on Big Orange Road.
It appeared to be open Friday, but no one wanted to talk about what happened.
WREG spotted security cameras on businesses in the area. TBI said it cannot discuss possible evidence.
