MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say two people were found dead in a Midtown residence Thanksgiving night.

Police say officers found a man and woman inside of a residence in the 100 block of North Bellevue. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Angela Franklin lives in an apartment complex on the intersection of North Bellevue and Jefferson, right next to the unit where Memphis Police say they found the victims. Franklin says the two were in a relationship.

“To hear that they both were dead inside the apartment, it’s kind of got me shaking because i have to smell the odor. It’s in there,” Franklin said.

Neighbors say a family member had come to check on the couple on Thanksgiving after not hearing from them for a couple of days.

It’s unclear how long the couple had been dead, but residents believe it may have been for a couple of days. People living in the apartment complex say they often saw the couple, but everyone usually just stayed to themselves.

It’s a decision Franklin says she wishes she could take back.

“It makes me wonder should I have talked to her more,” Franklin said. “I stay right next to her and did not know that. It makes me feel some type of way.”

Police say the cause of death has not been determined at this time. This is an ongoing death investigation.

“Love your family. Check on your family. Try to help your family,” Franklin said. “Get them some help. Try to intervene. I think it’s ok to mind your business but, I think you should try to know who your neighbors are.”
