(Tate County, MS) The Sheriff of Tate County, MS has confirmed to News Channel 3 that two north Mississippi highway shootings are related.

This is a story News Channel 3 was first to report and continues to follow.

They happened in Panola County and Tunica County.

Lori Carswell of Hernando was found dead early Friday morning on MS Highway 713, just north off MS Highway 3

Tuesday, a 74-year-old Nebraska man, Tom Schlender, was shot to death while riding along Interstate 55 near Pope.

There was also a robbery on Highway 61 last night but that does not appear to be related.

A 4pm news conference will be held in DeSoto County, MS this afternoon regarding two recent shootings on north Mississippi highways.

Earlier today, via its Facebook page, the Tate County, MS Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers there to be extra careful.

A statement posted to the page reads, “We urge everyone to be cautious while driving, especially at night. If someone attempts to pull you over with flashing lights and you feel unsure of stopping, DON’T PULL OVER. Use your cell phone and dial 911 and if it’s a real officer then the dispatcher will confirm it for you and if it’s not a real officer they will send help to you. Our deputies have been told not to overreact if someone does not immediately pull over. Your safety is our primary concern.”
