(Oxford, MS) The Lafayette County coroner says two Ole Miss students have died in a head-on collision.

The accident happened just before noon on Highway 6 in Oxford.

Oxford Police Captain James Owens told WREG the crash happened when one of the vehicles crossed over the median into oncoming traffic.

24-year-old Sarah Wheat died at the scene.

Wheat’s brother, 30-year-old John Wheat was airlifted to The Med where he later died.

The driver of the other vehicle has not been identified but is expected to survive.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
