MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are dead Tuesday after a shooting near the University of Memphis, police said.

Officers were on the scene in the 3700 block of Carnes near Echles around 2:45.

They said two people were found shot dead. The victims have not been identified and the circumstances of their deaths are unknown at this point.

Neighbors on Carnes said the couple is a husband and wife who have lived on the street for years. They were shocked to learn they were dead.

Police have not said who found the couple. Homicide investigators were on the scene for several hours.

Neighbors said the parents of the woman who lived at the home have been on the scene and have been talking to the police. Those neighbors are watching the couple’s dog, which was in the house with them.
