MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The University of Memphis announced it has partnered with the American Council of Education to help nontraditional students earn a college degree.
The initiative is called the Alternative Credit Project.
How it works is the ACE provides approximately 111 low- or no-cost, lower division courses online which the university will accept as credit toward the student’s degree.
The courses include areas of study in the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Science, Math, the Humanities, and Writing and Communication.
Courses can be self-paced, course- mentored, or instructor-led in style and will never cost more than $300 per course.
There is no financial aid provided.
The University of Memphis is just one of 40 different colleges who have joined the program, and the only one in the state of Tennessee.
The project is made possible by a $1.89 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
