HIGHLAND, Utah — A woman is getting to know her birth family for the first time, and AncestryDNA played the matchmaker.

Diane Meek used the DNA testing service to get answers about her heritage, KSTU reported.

She got much more than just answers — she got a family.

The first relative she met was Andrea Conley, her first cousin. The two actually live only two blocks away from each other but never knew they shared more than a neighborhood.

“She’s been living there 18 years, and I’ve been living here 13 years,” Conley told KSTU. “That close, and had no idea we were that closely related.”

Soon after meeting her cousin, Meek talked to her mother, Sharon Aelling, who then organized a family reunion.

“I just never thought this day would happen, and I’m very excited,” Meek said.

It was a magical moment for Aelling, too. She met her daughter, granddaughters and great-granddaughters.

“I’m just grateful and blown away from what the DNA testing can accomplish,” Meek said.
