NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The trial for two former Vanderbilt football players accused of rape has been delayed until March or April of 2016.
The decision was handed down by the judge on Monday, announced WTVF.
The trial against Cory Batey and Brandon Vandenburg was originally set to start in late November, but it was delayed reportedly because of the holiday season and the need to find a new jury in Chattanooga.
The defense has filed nearly 100 pages of motions so far in the case.
WTVF reported one of those was a motion for the defendants to be tried separately and a motion to dismiss the case entirely.
The judge denied the defense’s motion to try the defendants separately.
The delay is just the latest development in a case that has garnered national attention.
In June, a judge declared a mistrial in the case after a member of the jury failed to disclose he had been the victim of statutory rape.
