MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities say a severely damaged car discovered in South Memphis is not connected to the drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.
“Inaccurate information has been reported on several news outlets concerning the vehicles connected with the homicide that occured @ Ketchum & Airways. All suspect vehicles are still out and have not been recovered,” the Memphis Police Department stated.
“The three suspect vehicles that fled the area of a homicide involving a 10-year-old child at Ketchum and Airways are described as a gold Chevrolet Malibu, black Chrysler 300, and grey possible BMW.”
The vehicle — which reportedly matched the description of one police say was involved in Monday’s fatal shooting on Airways Boulevard and Ketchum Road — was located around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
WREG was there as police inspected the car. A cobweb of broken glass was all that’s left of the driver’s side window, and another one was smashed in completely.
A neighbor who lives in the area said the car was not only dumped in the neighborhood, but it was also moved sometime during the day on Tuesday, November 14.
Neighbor Tyrone Jackson says his first time seeing the car was this morning when it was parked in a different spot – on the street.
“When I got up this morning it was parked out there – like right there in front of the house,” said Jackson. “I knocked on the windshield and stuff was busted out. That’s all I saw.”
Jackson said that the windows had been busted out, and the car couldn’t be driven.
It’s a crazy sight for sure, but no crazier than what Jackson says he is used to seeing at the abandoned house.
“You can just sit on the porch over here and just see stuff going on at that house over there,” said Jackson. “Like a lot of stuff. That I won’t say.”
