Vote to get Memphis teen parenting program $25,000 grant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A group trying to do good in Memphis is among six causes in Tennessee vying for forty $25,000 grants thru a program from State Farm.

Two hundred groups in all hope Facebook users will choose them for the money.

In Memphis, the First STEPS Teen Parenting program is up for the money.

The program is run by the Exchange Club which describes it as, “This program is a one-year comprehensive teen parenting and life-skills support system for first-time teen mothers between the ages of 12-19 years old who show a risk for becoming an abusive or negligent parent. The program begins with a 14 week parenting and life-skills class which addresses pre-natal care, parenting, family planning, job readiness, and anger management. This class helps teach these teen mothers to provide for themselves and their infants, prevent child abuse and reduce juvenile delinquency.”

State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a youth-led philanthropic program that allows people to identify the issues they feel are the most important to their communities.

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a diverse group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, manages the program and reviewed each of the nearly 4,000 cause submissions selecting the top 200 finalists.

You can then locate your favorite cause by doing a search alphabetically or by state.

Voting ends June 3, with winners announced June 16.
