MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Groups of people gathered at ‘I Am A Man’ Plaza Saturday night to take to the streets of Memphis in protest of police brutality.
The event, lead by local activist Devante Hill, started at 6:30 p.m. and lasted until 9 p.m., giving protesters an hour to get home before the city’s curfew went into effect.
Some protesters told WREG they were from out of town but came out to exercise their first amendment right.
One man says he came out to have a voice for anyone who may have been a victim of brutality. He brought candles and lit them for the families that are left behind.
“I do not fear death at all,” he said. “My fear is dying without justice. My fear is dying and whole bunch of people recording and y’all could’ve did something. This right here shows me I still have faith in people.”
Hill plans on holding another protest on Sunday afternoon.
