Water back on in Turrell, Arkansas

TURRELL, Ark. — The water backed up in Dolly Yarbro’s house, and so far it was the only water she has seen since yesterday.

” It was no kind of warning. It was just cut off,” she told WREG.

In fact, the water supply was shut off for the entire town of Turrell Sunday night around 5 p.m.

“I can’t wash my clothes, my kids can’t take baths,” she said.

Mayor Dorothy Cooper said the problem has plagued the area for years.

“The system is old. And when you have a town that’s our size, it’s hard to get revenue in,” she told us.

Things in her town of 600, she said were falling about.

The town’s water tank was so rusted and damaged,  “it’s not even in operable condition.”

So the entire town turned to a well to filter water.

Crews worked all day to find a part they needed and got things up and running again Monday afternoon.

“You need it. You got to have it. You pay for it anyway. You got to have it and you paying for it. It’s a necessity. Water is,” said Cedric Mosley.

The mayor told WREG she understood why people were so upset because she lived there too.

She said the entire system must go.

“I’m kind of tired of the issue,” she admitted. “Let’s resolve this issue. Go ahead on and get it completed so we can work on something else that needs to be worked on.”

Businesses in this area told WREG they were also affected by all of this.

Many of them stocked up on water just in case something like this happened, but it still didn’t make things any easier.
