WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Two police departments in Arkansas are looking for a man accused of shooting his girlfriend in front of their seven-month-old son.
It happened Monday morning at an apartment on Deaunta Farrow Drive in West Memphis.
Terquarius Pope, 21, is also wanted by Jonesboro police for threatening his other girlfriend and her infant daughter the previous week.
Lamyrical Perry, 19, said Pope shot her in the leg Monday while her son, also named Terquarius, lay beside her.
“He said, ‘You know you ain’t gonna live through the night, right?’” Perry recalled.
Perry said the trouble started the previous day when she broke up with Pope and he vandalized the apartment they shared.
“Sunday he had pulled a gun out on me and I had broke up with him and left him,” Perry said.
Perry said Pope showed up again Monday morning and started going through her phone. That’s when she says he shot her and then began pistol whipping her.
“He said, ‘You know I’m fixing to beat you, right?’ So then that’s when he had started hitting me with the gun on my knee, my arm and my head,” Perry said.
Jonesboro police confirm Pope also has warrants for aggravated assault and terroristic threatening there.
Skylar McLeod of Jonesboro, who was also dating Pope, said he pointed a gun at her and her two-month-old daughter Thursday afternoon.
She also said he broke her phone and refused to let her leave her seat.
“I tried to get up again and that’s when he put the gun to our head and told me to sit down or he’ll kill her and I pushed him and I screamed and he smacked me in my face so hard that he almost knocked me out,” McLeod said.
McLeod said Pope had choked her the night before and dragged her around the house by her neck as she pleaded for him to stop.
“I thought he was gonna kill me and my daughter because that’s not his kid so he didn’t really care,” McLeod said.
But as Perry can testify, there are no guarantees even when it is Pope’s child.
“I’m scared if I get back with him he’ll try to kill me next time,” Perry said.
Both Perry and McLeod said they weren’t aware of each other until after Monday’s assault.
West Memphis police said Pope is wanted for first degree battery and endangering the welfare of a minor.
