MEMPHIS, Tenn — Hundreds of people stopped by Beale Street Sunday evening to witness the Beale Street Wine Race put on by the Beale Street Merchants Association.
The annual wine race pits teams from different Memphis restaurants and bars against each other in an exciting relay. The team with the fastest times and least amount of wasted wine on their tray wins.
The race included fierce competitors from Huey’s, Lafayette’s Music Room, Gold Strike Casino, Silky O’ Sullivan’s, Cafe Ole’, R. P. Tracks, Fleming’s Steakhouse, the Fox and the Hound Cordova, the Peabody Lobby Bar and several other Beale Street establishments.
Other highlights of the event included a parade, a grape stomp, and the Queen of the vine competition. The Queen of the vine title goes to the most talented female server.
Huey’s and Goldstrike Casino sent the competition home wining after winning the wine race and Queen of the vine crown, respectively.
