(Memphis) Everyone wants to win the lottery and today that dream came true for someone who bought a ticket in Bartlett.
Tuesday night’s Mega Millions numbers made the lucky winner one million dollars richer.
The person bought the ticket at Bartlett Wine and Spirits off Summer Avenue, sometime between Saturday and Tuesday afternoon.
You know how the saying goes.
“You can’t win unless you buy a ticket,” said Bartlett Wine and Spirits Manager Sean Cartwright.
It only takes a ticket to win.
It just doesn’t happen very often, “We hear that every day.”
But someone must have taken the store manager’s advice, “We tell them every day: you never know unless you play.”
One of Cartwright’s customers played and is now the winner of a million dollars.
The Tennessee Lottery says whoever won with their Mega Millions purchase hasn’t picked-up the check yet in Nashville.
Rumor has it, the winner let a Memphis lottery office know they had a winning ticket.
It’s not Store Customer Patrick Thompson.
“I’ve never played,” said Thompson. “I wish it would have been me.”
In seven years of working at Bartlett Wine and Spirits, the manager says the biggest win he’s seen was $2,500 with a scratch-off ticket.
A million dollars is a lot more than that.
“So many people buy tickets every day here,” said Cartwright. “We really hope it’s a regular that we recognize.”
Whoever it is, it won’t be him. Cartwright didn’t take his own advice. He has played Mega Millions every week, except this one.
“You got to buy one to win,” he said.
The Tennessee Lottery says the lucky winner will likely walk away with somewhere around $750,000 after taxes. Bartlett Wine and Spirits will also get a cut of the prize: $5,000.
