MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Elijah Mitchell was sitting at at traffic light when we saw a gold Chevy Impala come racing up behind him followed by MPD and a Sheriff’s Deputy.

“They were coming down South Parkway and hit my car and they kinda fish tailed,” he said.

Mitchell said two men inside the Chevy jumped out, and started running.

One of the men was firing shots at the officers.

“Yeah like 29 gunshots. Back and forth up here we got hit,” said Jade Houseworth.

“The officers chasing the subjects on foot. One brandished a firearm and shot at the officers,” said Josh Devine with the TBI.

Investigators with the TBI said two MPD Officers fired shots and one of them hit the gunman.

However, he won’t say if the shooting was justified.

“The TBI will make no  determination of fault. We leave that up to the D.A.”

Crews taped off much of the neighborhood gathering evidence and searched much of the evening for the other person in the car who was in the middle of this and somehow got away.

“It was just chaos and ignorance everywhere,” said Houseworth.
