MEMPHIS, Tenn. — People are now allowed to come and go at the Cottonwood Apartments after police shut it down for several hours looking for suspects and evidence related to the shooting death of Officer Sean Bolton.
A dark four-door car towed away from the Cottonwood Apartments on Sunday afternoon might be the link police need to catch whoever shot and killed Memphis Police Officer Sean Bolton.
“They were driving real fast,” Russell Hunt said. Hunt was watching television Saturday night when he heard someone barrel across the complex’s speed bumps.
“Whatever happened, the police was coming across Cottonwood and hit it,” Hunt said.
Hunt says police initially drove down the street and not into the apartment complex.
One woman told WREG, she heard those same loud screeches and saw the driver of that dark car park right in the front of the complex. She then saw four young men jump out the car and start running.
Other witnesses said, they spotted several men jump the fences and take off running.
Sarah Millner and her daughter Dawn didn’t hear or see anything that can help police catch Bolton’s killer. The two watched police hunt for the gunman out of their bedroom windows. They said they are saddened the man murdered had once patrolled the complex to keep them safe.
“We have seen that policeman,” Millner said.
Now, the mother and daughter are thanking Bolton for his ultimate sacrifice. They said they hope his family is comforted knowing how much his service meant to those living at Cottonwood.
“We have them on our prayer list,” Millner said. “Yes, pray for the family and the police department definitely.”
