MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 31-year-old woman is accused of using salt to poison an 8-year-old boy under her care.

Tiffany Johnson was indicted and taken into custody Monday for allegedly putting large amounts of salt into the boy’s gastric tube.

The boy, who is in a wheelchair and unable to care for himself, suffered from numerous ailments that resulted in more than six visits to Le Bonheur in less than half a year.

Doctors noted the boy’s sodium levels were increased significantly, which didn’t happen before Johnson, who was his nanny, started caring for him and hasn’t happened since she left.

Johnson has a bond hearing next week.
