MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman accused of pouring hot water on her boyfriend has been charged by police.
Police were called to a home on the 2300 block of Dexter Avenue. The brother of the victim said he just wants to know why.
“I come out the house and she done threw something on him,” the victim’s brother William Wilson said.
Wilson said he thought he was dreaming early Wednesday morning when his brother Victor, who lives next door, ran to his home to tell him his girlfriend threw scalding hot water on him.
“She burnt him up, she threw something on him, I don’t know what she threw on him,” he said.
Urelene Wright is charged with aggravated assault.
Wilson said he called 911 but eventually took his brother to the nearest fire station because the burns were so severe.
WREG was there when police came out to the home and put the woman in a police car.
He said his brother’s girlfriend had a stick in her hand that he believes she used to hit him with.
Neighbors stood outside and watched in disbelief when police came out to the home. Neighbors said they’re bothered by the incident, and they just want to know why it happened.
“Not for sure what the world is coming to but I just, I don’t know what was going on with her, maybe she was having problems or something,” Carolyn Smith said.
Police said this is an ongoing domestic violence investigation. Smith said she saw the woman just a few days ago.
“She kind of looked like she was bothered a little, like she was seeking for help,” Smith said.
Other neighbors told WREG they think the woman got fed up with her boyfriend, whom they said may have been abusive.
William Wilson said he took his brother to the fire department because when he called 911 it took police more than an hour to respond.
Police said the call came in at 7:16 a.m. and their officers were diverted. They arrived to meet the victim and arrived at 7:47 a.m.
