MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was locked up Friday, after police said she mistreated a baby and got physical with her family members.
Police arrested Antionette Tate, 28, for domestic assault and child abuse.
WREG went to the home where the scuffle happened and Tate’s mother agreed to speak with WREG through the door.
“She wanted to get up and take her baby out, and she was drunk. I wouldn’t let her take the baby,” her mother said.
She said Tate needs help.
“Ms. Tate is on medication, but she won’t take it. She won’t go and get signed up for her help that she needs,” Tate’s mother said.
Tate’s mug shot showed she had a black eye.
The police report said Tate took her nine-month-old daughter and slammed her down on the floor, then violently shoved a baby bottle into her mouth.
Police said Tate’s sister argued with her.
Then, Tate reportedly started taking swings at her sister’s daughter.
Tate’s sister jumped in to defend her daughter and punched her.
During the course of the scuffle, police said Tate also hit her mother.
Tate’s nephew forced Tate out of the house, but he got cut on a broken window.
Neighbor Earl Muhammad said this news made him nervous about his own children’s safety.
“To even think about somebody over here doing that, that kind of makes me like, ‘Yeah, stay in the yard,'” Muhammad said.
“She got mad and wanted to fight everybody in the house,” Tate’s mother recalled.
Tate’s mother said the baby is doing okay.
Tate was scheduled to be back in court on Monday.
