(Memphis) Police are on the hunt for two men who severely beat a woman and robbed her of her purse.
It seems to be a hangout spot outside the Save Mart at Oakwood and Heard, even though the corner store boldly has “no loitering” painted on the building.
Memphis Police say, so far, no one has come forward saying they witnessed a woman beaten so badly, she’s in critical condition at the Med.
“I just hate it happened,” said Patrick Morrow who lives nearby.
Police tell News Channel 3, just before 6:00 Friday night, a 30-year-old woman left the store when two men snatched her purse, severely beat her in the head and then took off.
The woman was able to walk home, just a couple of blocks away, from there; she was rushed to The Med.
The owner of the store says there are 16 cameras inside and outside of the building, but one was smashed by crooks weeks ago.
That camera would have shown police the whole beating. Now, police are talking to folks in the neighborhood.
“They asked did we hear anything about anybody getting beat or robbed. I said no sir,” said Morrow.
“I was just passing through, got my little girl some chips and a drink,” said Tammy Jackson.
For years, she has come to this very store at least once a week. Jackson says up until now, she’s felt safe off Hollywood.
“I do. I have been living in this neighborhood all my life,” said Jackson.
But after hearing a woman was robbed and beaten in the same spot, she’s not so sure. Making matters worse, the men who did it are still on the streets.
“I probably won’t be coming to the store. If I had known then I probably would not have come to the store,” said Jackson.
But she and everyone else hope whoever di d it, is caught soon.
