COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — From fingerprints to a fancy truck, a crook left lots of clues behind as she was caught on camera stealing cash from an auto mechanic shop on Highway 72 and Poplar in Collierville.
The video showed the truck pull up in the parking lot Wednesday.
A woman hopped out and headed to the office of the small mechanic shop where Sam Altie runs his business.
“I always tell people put cameras everywhere, even where you live, you have to have cameras,” said Altie.
He said he’s not always behind the counter, because he works on the cars.
In the video you could see the crook walk inside the empty shop.
Mr. Altie and his helper were hard at work on a car on the other side of a glass window.
She appeared to spot an envelope Altie had just got.
It was filled with $400 from a customer as payment.
The woman grabbed it, stuffed it inside her bra and rushed back to her truck.
“It’s a nice car. If you need money go work, find you a job. How you don’t know it’s not someone hungry, someone need it for food?” asked Altie.
Since then, Altie has put up a door to keep people from coming behind his counter, and has shared the video online.
He said he was hoping someone would recognize something to help him catch the woman.
“I work so hard by myself just to make a little money,” said Altie.
Police already have some leads and could be close to an arrest.
